HNB, DGM Retail & SME Banking, Sanjay Wijemanne, and HNB AGM Digital Business, Chammika Weerasinghe with FITIS Digital Services Chapter and Co-Chair of Internet Day 2022, Channa de Silva and FITIS Digital Services Chapter Vice President, Omar Sahib.

Sri Lanka’s most technologically innovative bank, HNB PLC, signed on as Official Banking Partner for ‘Sri Lanka Internet Day 2022’, organized by The Digital Services Chapter of the Federation of Information Technology in Sri Lanka (FITIS) on 22nd November 2022 at The Hilton, Colombo.

“As the nation’s undisputed leader in digital banking and payments, we have seen how the rapid evolution and adoption of internet and tech-enabled services are creating opportunities for vibrant growth across the Sri Lankan economy, and particularly at its grassroots. We are therefore proud to serve as the Official Banking Partner for Sri Lanka Internet Day 2022,” HNB DGM Retail & SME Banking, Sanjay Wijemanne said.

Hosted under the theme: ‘Digital Lifestyle: Lifeline to overcome turmoil’, this will be the second consecutive year that the event will be taking place, providing Sri Lankans from all walks of life with an opportunity to engage with local and global industry experts.

“We are grateful to HNB for their invaluable support as Official Banking Partner for Sri Lanka Internet Day 2022. Their support adds weight to our shared belief that all stakeholders in the Sri Lankan economy – from the state sector to large corporates, SMEs, start-ups and entrepreneurs – all need to find ways of leveraging the internet to their advantage.

“With Sri Lanka Internet Day, we aim to connect these communities to international players, in order to encourage tech and knowledge transfer, and strengthen Sri Lanka’s competitive position as a global player in internet-driven innovation,” President of the FITIS Digital Services Chapter and Co-Chair of Internet Day 2022, Channa de Silva, stated.

This year’s theme “Digital Lifestyle” was chosen by the organizers, in order to showcase citizen engagement in a digital society; how the internet and digitization can positively impact everyday life by merging with information technology. The term “digital life” is used to distinguish between parts of human life that take place in “cyberspace”, or which are closely related to digital technologies, and the other areas of life that take place in “real life” independent of digital technologies.
