“Lowa Dinana Singiththo 2009” the grand finale which included the prize presentation, art exhibition and the evening of entertainment was held last Saturday at the BMICH Main Hall. The Chief Guest for this occasion was Mr Rajendra Theagarajah, Managing Director/CEO of Hatton National Bank, and the Guest of Honor was Mr Premasara Epasinghe, Private Secretary to the Minister of Education, Hon. Susil Premajayantha.
The Lowa Dinana Singiththo 2009 being held for the second consecutive year saw a large number of young children from more than 9,800 schools islandwide participating to display their talents and creativity in singing, speech, drama, short story writing, art, essay writing etc.
The competition was held over a period of 3 months at district and national level with the full support of the Ministry of Education. Delivering the welcome speech, Mr Chandula Abeywickrema, Deputy General Manager (Marketing & Retail Banking), Hatton National Bank said that HNB is happy to be associated with the Ministry of Education to conduct an islandwide all island school competition of this magnitude. He also said that the HNB’s substantial investment in such programmes is purely to empower and provide young children the opportunity to display their talents so that they will be more equipped to face tomorrow’s challenges.
Mr Rajendra Theagarajah, Managing Director/CEO, HNB speaking on this occasion stated that HNB as a premier private sector commercial bank has a special commitment towards children. He further stated that as a bank that introduced the highly popular Singithi Minor Savings Brand which today is promoted in the Banks’ 180 Customer Centres islandwide and the 152 school banking units, HNB is happy to be associated with this event to encourage children from all parts of Sri Lanka including North and East to tap their latent talents and creativity.
A large number of winners, school children, parents and well-wishers from all parts of the country slot to BMICH last Saturday to witness the prize presentation, art competition and the evening of entertainment of Lowa Dinana Singiththo 2009.
The curtain raiser of the evening was the entertaining dance act from the Budawatte Dance Troupe to the popular Tamil song “Chinna China Asai” from Mani Rutnam’s film “Roja”. The young winners of the singing, drama competition, etc chaired the stage with young professionals like Harshana Dissanayake and Nadro & Rakitha drummers who kept the crowed entertained throughout the evening. A special feature of the evening was the Drama presented by children from the Blind School, Ratmalana.
Mr Premasara Epasinghe, Private Secretary to the Minister of Education, Hon. Susil Premajayantha delivered the special message sent by the Minister thanking Hatton National Bank for coming forward to organize this event for the second successive year. He also stated that Hatton National Bank being leading a private sector commercial bank has set a classic example to all private sector corporate by embarking on this venture. The Hon Minister thanked all staff of the Ministry of Education who supported to make this event a success.
The Lowa Dinana Singiththo 2009 All Island School Competition in art, drama, short story writing, essay writing, singing, dancing etc was held among 9,800 schools with the participation more than 150,000 school children with presenting the Sinhala, Tamil and English mediums. |
