The Board of Hatton National Bank has appointed Mr.N.G. Wickremaratne as an Independent Non Executive Director with effect from July 1st, 2009.

Mr. Wickremaratne (popularly known as “Tanky”), is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Hayleys Group, one of Sri Lanka’s most respected, diversified and successful blue chip conglomerates today.  He is due to retire from that post on June 30th, 2009. He had joined the Hayleys Group in 1971 as a Management Trainee and has had a long and distinguished career which saw him appointed as a Group Executive Director in 1983, to the Board in 1986, Deputy Chairman in 2004 and as Chairman and CEO in January 2007. A great achievement in his career had been the founding of Dipped Products Ltd (“DPL”) a key company within the Hayleys Group manufacturing rubber gloves, of which he had been the CEO from its inception in 1976 and Managing Director from 1983 to 2006.

He had chaired the Sri Lanka Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Rubber products, served as a committee member of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and had been its representative on the National Labour Advisory Council. He is a Past President of the Sri Lanka – France Business Council.

An old boy of St Thomas College, Mount Lavinia, Mr. Wickremaratne holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya.
