The cohesion of experience, expertise, skills and humanity has resulted in the powerful philosophy of developing and sustaining the people, environment and nation. Using the full force of its resources, the Bank strives to meet the needs of the current generation without sacrificing the requirements of generations to come. From empowering rural entrepreneurs to providing water and sanitation facilities, our award-winning sustainability initiatives bring pride to the entire team.

The Bank's sustainability structure is headed by the MD/CEO, ensuring that all the organisation's operations are geared towards sustainability. A devoted Sustainability Committee identifies the objectives, course and structure of sustainability projects each year, while three sub-committees determine investment, task focus and approval framework.
Acknowledging the Bank's enduring commitment to community sustainability, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recognised the Bank as 1st Runner Up at its Best Corporate Citizens Awards 2010. The Bank also received the top prize in the Employee Relations Category in acknowledgement of its dedication to employee welfare. Additionally, the ACCA, at its Sustainability Reporting Awards 2009, commended HNB's quality of sustainability reporting with the first place award in the Large Scale category.
