Financial Literacy to Rural Micro-entrepreneurs "Divi Saviya"

With the inception of the Gami Pubuduwa scheme, the Bank has conducted customer awareness programmes to develop customers' entrepreneur skills. In order to increase focus on this initiative, we have re-launched the financial literacy programme of the Development Banking Division under the name "Divi Saviya" - Danumen Diyunuwata (Strength to Life - Progress Through Knowledge).

New features of this programme are Financial Literacy, Technology Transfer, Personal Development and Health Education. We work closely with the relevant government and private sector organisations to obtain their assistance in making the programme a success.

The first project under this programme was launched in Welikanda on 4th July 2009 as a Health Camp together with the National Stroke Association and recorded over 1000 participants.

The programme is now operating successfully and through these initiatives, the Bank has received recognition throughout the community. Participants have highly commended the initiative.

To date, the project has facilitated over 3000 micro-entrepreneurs and conducted 15 programmes across the island.
