How to open a RFC Savings Account

  1. Download account opening form or collect a form from one of our Customer Centres.

  2. Complete the form, sign and present it to a Customer Centre convenient to you along with your National Identity Card or passport. (In the case of non-citizens, a copy of the resident visa and passport are required)

  3. Initial Deposit US$ 500-

Advantages:

If you are a resident in Sri Lanka and receiver of inward remittances from overseas in foreign currency, you could deposit same and gain on the interest payable in foreign currency and may be the appreciation of the value when converting same to Sri Lanka Rupees at a later date.

Credits permitted to a RFC Savings Account
  • Inward remittances received in favour of the account holder except as proceeds of export of goods and services.

  • Foreign exchange brought to Sri Lanka on arrival by the account holder other than as any unutilized balances of foreign exchange issued in Sri Lanka for travel abroad.  Any sum of US$ 10,000- or equivalent in other foreign currency should be declared at Sri Lanka Customs on arrival and a Customs Declaration obtained.

  • Interest payable in foreign currency on funds held in the account.

Debits to RFC Accounts
  • Make any payment in foreign currency to or for the credit of a person resident outside Sri Lanka.
  • Transfer of funds from one RFC Account to another RFC Account.
  • Making any payment in Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka Rupees converted at the prevailing rate of exchange.
  • Payments in foreign currency on account of life insurance premium is not permitted. Only health/medical & travel insurance is permitted provided documentary proof is submitted acceptable to the bank.
